The Suburban Genome Project is a small collection of essays, observations, and personal recollections by the Median Strip staff about the peculiar American phenomenon of the suburbs.

Some of the writers worked together, some worked alone, and some didn’t know that they were writing for the project. What resulted is a picture of late 20th-century America taken through an oddly distorted lens, where the trivial is elevated and the anonymous suburbs take center stage.
